El Mirador

Many years ago and a continent far away I watched a National Geographic document about a newly discovered Mayan city called El Mirador. It seemed like a nice, but rather unrealistic idea that I would ever visit, but when was I in Guatemala (where the ruins are located) I thought: why not? I contacted a local cooperativa and in no time found a group leaving on foot on a short notice. The trip consisted of a 90km long walk (there and back) and culminated on the peak of biggest pyramid in the world (by volume).

Location: Eastern Guatemala
Year: 2015
